1 month down in 2018, are you design ready India? Let’s suite up designers for 2018!
I see a lot of trends from 2017 and 2016 carrying forwarded in 2018 as well. So here are my top 5 design trends which will make an impact in 2018:
#5 Real Photography
Designers in India are still fond of shutter stock images but that trend has changed a lot in 2017 as I saw many of the images used by international designers were real life images than the standard photoshoot images. Well why not? Don’t you want to see real people, real life scenarios, and experiences? Yaaass! There are plenty of free stock image providers out who specialize in such forte, do keep that in mind this year while hunting for images.
Over the period of last few years it has grown. But for 2018 I see a lot of designers focusing on big oversized and sans serif typeface. With that I also feel that spilt type, playing around with image and placements will also grow this year. Type will rock in 2018 as well!
#3 Background patterns
I love patterns but I do also feel patterns are underrated. Huh! Not anymore, 2018 will be their year. Background patterns with geometric designs and elements are visible in many websites in 2018 already! I do feel experiment with patterns and images will also make a huge impact in 2018.
#2 Going 3D
VR and AR are here in our hands now! Apple X has changed the game all together and the apps and many platforms are VR/AR ready. Everyone is turning around their focus with emergence of this new growing platform. 3D elements in websites, apps and even images shall too grow.
#1 Micro interactions
Well they consume a really small part but they are the most engaging element from user experience POV. Profusely used in apps, I also see a growing use in web as well. Designers have started experimenting with this already! #exciting
Along with these I feel use of bright gradients ( I hope the overuse of pink and purple trend fads away soon), double exposure, duo tones, glitch, metallic elements, custom illustrations, vintage colour and patterns, gifs and animated images will be also used this year.
Did I miss out on something? Do share you love or rage for the upcoming trends this year.

Do you have more in mind?? Do share them below!
Social media is all about visuals. Even if you have good content without good visuals, it might just get lost in the pool of content. So you need to bring out the content with help of awesome visuals. But all of us are not design experts and hence cannot optimize their content. Hence, here is my easy to use cheat code of tools which can help you optimize your post content with good images!
Probably the best free image creation tool out there. It has layouts, fonts, images, etc. ready in a ready template. So you don’t have to do more work, just select, edit & share!
it’s just like canva, so you can edit, add text, create a collage, etc. The only thing I feel needs an improvement is buffer time for slow network like mine!
I have recently started using it & must say i am in love with it! It’s an app on my android mobile, so I can edit my images on the go and when I need it. As canva & picmonkey are not on mobile yet, for those who need to edit images on the go probably this is the best option out there! It’s not free yet, but the over fonts app is free for now, which is pretty cool too.
If you are creating infographics, this tools is just right for you. I have used ease.ly earlier which also is useful in creating rich infographics.
Finally my last pick is quotescover, it’s easy & quick way to create creative content based post. After a few hiccups and struggle, you will finally get the hang of it!
Hope you liked my pick for creating content for social media posts with help of imaging tools. Do let me know if you are using other cool imaging tools which are better then these!
I often come across a good quality image on social media, with good content on it but then stop myself from sharing it because there is too much of branding done on the image. Does that happen with you as well? It’s just some brands are doing it right with their content on social media but they kill it while executing with their creatives. Here are my tips on how a brand can optimize their social media images while putting the right amount of branding in it.
#1 Blend in
Some brands just over power the image with their logos all over. Hence the shareablity of the image decreases, so logos should blend in with the image, not shout out.
#2 Avoid too much of branding
Too much of branding can just kill the content. I’ve seen a single post with 3 different logos, a logo of the company, another one of parent company and the third of the client. I was confused as hell with what they’re trying to put across & whose product was it actually of!
#3 Share Friendly
Think of this like, what makes you share an image on your profile? When you are doing so you not only think of points which needs to be included on the image but also of the points you don’t like on an image. As for people’s opinions & feedback as this with provide you with a holistic viewpoint.
Watermark are best way to do branding without being too much on the face with logos. But I’ve also seen brands with too much of watermarks on their pictures! That too should be avoided only one watermark will do.
#5 Different ways to get credit for you image
You do branding on your image so that you get credit for the image & it’s content. Try different ways to brand your image with playing across your logo a bit, or putting credit text on the post followed by the image, etc. Just play around with the content & image in order to minimize the branding effect & see what works.
#6 Be Graceful
Branding is an art, and it should be done graceful! The more subtle you are with branding on social media the more people like your content. As social media is not about branding but it’s about connecting the brands with people.
Try utilizing from these points on your next post & see if it works or not! DO share your feedback too, I would love to hear!
Design is the main focus in 2015, so everyone needs to keep themselves well acquainted with the design trends going on in the digital world. Here are few design trends which can guide all the bloggers in 2015 with their visual aesthetic appeal of their blogs!
Playing with words is what you should focus on these days. Typography is defiantly something you need to invest in 2015.
Clean is definitely in .The more clear and clean your blog is the more user friendly and inviting it becomes. Flat designs and icons are major key focus this year.
#3 Expandable Menus
Expandable menus is what I am looking at as they are easier and user friendly and coincide with the entire minimalistic look
Or mobile friendly was the focus last year and so is has a major growth elements this year too. Content should be in adaptable terms with mobile devices. As major audience is on mobile these days you might skip on them if you pass on mobilendly.
Big background are visually and can fill the minimalistic look of the blog, leading to an elegant look.
All these tips and trends I personally feel should be taken into consideration this year to achieve the most out of this year. Simply put I feel CLEAN IS IN.
DO share your thoughts too & what you think I am missing out on from
Designing plays an important role in visual communications and with the basics of design in place one can easily achieve this objective. Even though there are many rules in designing, here are 5 of the most important ones according to me in order to create an effective communication with visuals :-
The fonts should be legit and appropriate and in tune with the communication.
Not more than 5 colours should be used. If there is requirement of more colours, add more colours while playing along with the shades of the colours used.
Use simple and easy to understand icons. Icons which are universally accepted are the best option. As they are used to enhance the appearance not distract from the topic.
They should be in tune with the content and tone. They should be added only to enhance the content.
Keep it minimal. Don’t get over-boarded with the illustrations, charts, content, etc. Just keep it simple and to the point. The simpler the better to understand and connect.
Various other dimensions also play an important part w.r.t. effective communication like spacing, call to action, etc. Do share what you think also adds to the above list too!
